I'm a non-blogger!!

<> Try as I might to maintain a blog, I never seem to manage it!

Nor have I ever been able to maintain a journal - in my entire my life. I positively marvel at all the folks who do and who can maintain a blog with such ease.

I think I just find it hard to get my thoughts out of my head and into a journal or blog. The thoughts whizz through faster than I can organize them into anything worthwhile reading. I would just leave a trail of half finished sentences, which might make for amusing reading but most likely not!

After reading about a friend who did a workshop about yoga in which she included a part on the participants journaling their experiences, I felt inspired to come here and write. But about what?

I'll have a think about that!!

Billie Holiday

Many years ago, as a child, I heard Billie Holiday sing and became fascinated by her voice. It was several years later that Diana Ross portrayed her in the film "Lady Sings The Blues" bringing back to light the remarkable voice and the songs.

Here's one, which came to mind when I wrote the post below, except instead of sunlight the words are "What a little moonlight can do"

The above from 1935 and the following from 1958:

Blue skies, sun and yellow flowers

The weather has turned remarkably pleasant - dry and sunny - causing everything to burst into bloom. Instead of a garden of green weeds, the warmth and light has given them bright yellow flowers which make it look as if everywhere is bathed in sunlight, all topped off with an amazing backdrop of azure skies.

I taught a class this morning and when it was over, the owner of the studio and I opened windows, allowing the sun to pour in, and we spread the cotton mats onto window sills. I also took the chance to stand to warm my feet in the very spot where the rays fell on the wood floor. Feet warmed up I then headed for home.

Almost as soon as I arrived home, I opened windows and doors allowing a waft of fresh spring air to drift through the house - ah, bliss!

Amazing what a little sunlight can do to lift one's spirits!

Silence broken

I know what brought on the long silence on this blog...

it wasn't that there wasn't anything to say, quite the contrary, but it was hard to find the words for the most time.

2008 proved to be a year of emotions - happy ones and not so happy ones, with the not so happy ones seeming to dominate if I choose to look back.

But I have no desire to remember the year as an unhappy one, but rather one of triumphs...

So congrats to family and friends who have shown they can take charge of their lives with courage and determination. And deepest gratitude to you all for taking me along with you.

You are all in my heart, always.

Love,
Suzi

Leningrad Cowboys & the Red Army Choir

My friend Susan put me on to these guys - they are amazing although having the Red Army Choir singing along to Sweet Home Alabama is just surreal! I absolutely loved 'em!!

This is the info supplied with the video:

The Leningrad Cowboys is a Finnish rock and roll band famous for its humorous songs and concerts featuring the Soviet Red Army Choir.

Currently, the band has eleven Cowboys and two Leningrad Ladies. The songs, all somewhat influenced by polka and progressive rock, and performed in English, have themes such as 'vodka', 'tractors', 'rockets', and 'Genghis Khan', as well as folkloric Russian songs, rock and roll ballads and covers from bands as diverse as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, all with lots of humour.

-----------------------------------

The Red Army Choir (Choir Aleksandrov) is a performing ensemble that served as the official army choir of the former Soviet Union's Red Army. The choir consists of a male choir, an orchestra, and a dance ensemble. The songs they perform range from Russian folk tunes to Church hymns, operatic arias and popular music.
In 1991, The Red Army Choir participated in Roger Waters' The Wall concert celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall. They performed an anti-war song "Bring the Boys Back Home".

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Red Army Choir has continued performing, entertaining audiences both inside and outside Russia.

Home sweet home again

I cannot believe we are still trying to sort out our belongings since we moved back into our refurbished home. I mean, it didn't take that long to clear it out, so how comes it is taking forever to get everything back in here......it also means I still can't get the car in the garage! And we have a bed left over.....? Perhaps I've lost a kidlet in the move back somehow......nope, they're all here!

The weird thing is that there a lot of things which seem to have gone missing, like bed linen. I gave up searching in the end and bought some new linen during the sales, thinking that as soon as I did that they would mysteriously turn up. They still haven't so hub thinks they must have been thrown out by accident. I hope not, as they weren't exactly old.

Carnaval already?

It seems like it was only yesterday we were recovering from Christmas and New Year and now it's 'Carnaval'.....great for the kids as they now have a lonnnnngg weekend ahead of them and only return to school on Thursday.

Then next month it will be the Easter break and soon after that June will be on the doorstep together with the summer holidays......and then Christmas again!
